[Sisa Times = Reporter Woo Kyung-hyun] Wishbuilder, Reserve Carbon, and CycleX announced that they have signed a three-party Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to jointly verify greenhouse gas reduction in livestock manure treatment processes, as well as the integrated treatment of leachate and wash water, and the potential reuse of treated water.

The agreement aims to establish a technological and business cooperation framework to address key environmental issues in the livestock sector, including manure management, methane (CH₄) reduction, odor and leachate complaints, wash water treatment, and water pollution concerns.

Through this agreement, the three companies plan to jointly promote a carbon-neutral livestock waste management model covering:application of carbon-reducing livestock manure treatment systems, measurement of greenhouse gas reduction, development of external project methodologies, post-treatment purification of leachate and wash water, evaluation of water reuse potential, stabilization of sludge and treatment by-products.


CycleX will be responsible for demonstration of livestock manure treatment and greenhouse gas reduction based on operating data from carbon-reducing treatment systems. Reserve Carbon will handle greenhouse gas reduction quantification, development of external project methodologies, and review of government approval and registration for carbon credit systems. Wishbuilder will be responsible for post-treatment environmental management technologies, including coagulation, sedimentation, and disinfection of leachate and wash water, verification of water reuse potential, stabilization of sludge and by-products, and collection of water quality improvement data.


In particular, this cooperation goes beyond simply applying manure treatment systems, as it also evaluates the potential reuse of treated leachate and wash water as agricultural water, facility cleaning water, and irrigation water. The use of treated water for livestock drinking purposes will be considered in stages, subject to advanced treatment processes, separate water quality testing, and safety verification by livestock type.


The three companies plan to identify pilot project sites in collaboration with local governments and livestock farms, and gradually collect data on manure treatment before and after processing, water quality improvement of leachate and wash water, odor and by-product stabilization, and greenhouse gas reduction. Based on this, they aim to build an integrated livestock environmental pilot model linking carbon reduction MRV (Measurement, Reporting, Verification) and water quality improvement MRV, and explore the possibility of registering demonstration sites and developing external project methodologies.


This cooperation model is expected to evolve into a community coexistence livestock environmental improvement project that reduces manure treatment costs and water usage burdens for farmers while alleviating odor and water pollution concerns for nearby residents. It is also expected to help municipalities move beyond repeated complaint management toward a data-driven livestock environmental management system.


In addition, the three companies plan to develop a standardized model that can be expanded to livestock farms, cooperative resource recovery facilities, and public treatment facilities based on demonstration results. They will also explore financial support models such as policy funding, subsidies, and lease/installment financing to reduce the initial burden on farmers. Furthermore, they aim to evolve the model into a “Korean-style livestock carbon neutrality and water circulation system” applicable to domestic municipalities as well as overseas livestock regions, developing countries, and international cooperation projects.


A representative from Wishbuilder stated, “For livestock manure treatment technology to be widely adopted in the field, post-treatment environmental issues such as leachate, wash water, and by-products must be addressed alongside carbon reduction,” adding, “Wishbuilder will play a role in reducing water-related issues and environmental risks in livestock environments through its water treatment and resource circulation technologies.”
