In an interview with DNEWS, Hyojin Kim, CEO of Wishbuilder, shared the journey that led her from a career in social impact and academia to leading a company dedicated to addressing the global water crisis.
Holding a Ph.D. in Social Welfare, Kim spent more than two decades working in corporate social responsibility (CSR) at organizations including Samsung Electronics and the Korea Life Insurance Philanthropy Foundation. She also taught at Soongsil University, mentoring students while developing and leading initiatives to address a wide range of social challenges.
Reflecting on her career, Kim explained that she found the greatest sense of purpose in creating practical solutions to social issues and helping improve people's lives. This conviction ultimately inspired her to seek a more direct way to make a meaningful impact.
That opportunity came when she met the lead researcher behind Wishbuilder's water purification technology. After being invited to lead the company, Kim decided to embrace a new challenge with a clear mission: to help provide safe drinking water for the nearly two billion people worldwide who continue to face water insecurity.
